We were all set to leave this morning for a 10 hour run down the Tombigbee Waterway but a few yards from the dock, the starboard engine quit. Thirty seconds later the port engine quit. I dropped the anchor so we wouldn't hit any other boats and John tried to start the engines a few more times. No luck. John had a problem with the engines only using fuel from the port fuel tank on the last leg of his trip and something related to that came back and bit us. Again, the 4 University Degrees didn't help. We were stuck there for about 30 minutes until the staff got to work at 8 AM. They towed us to the dock using a small runabout and the mechanic went to work. After an hour and a half, we were back in business. The charge was only $90, a miracle considering the normal cost of boat things.

We were very lucky, it could have happened while we were in the river with a barge coming at us. That's how it is in the dangerous world of boating, a thrill a minute. Why, just yesterday, we were almost 50 ft from shore. Laugh if you must, but if you fall in this water, you will never be seen again.

My temporary office, it's not as nice as the one I had at Broan-NuTone.
